2004-07-25 04:25:00 | This behaviour indicates serious problems with the drive. I would make use of the guarantee, Trish :D That's why you get a guarantee. | Graham L (2) | |

2004-07-26 01:43:00 | thanx for ur suggestions:) went back to DSE and purchased a new FDD and installed it. purchased new one so pc wouldnt have to go to Auckland for 3 weeks! NOW! when i insert a floppy disk i have to hold down the button to get it in and then it wont give it back to me:( unless i use tweezers and hold down the button. i know i shouldnt be using tweezers but is easier than taking FDD out just to get disk out! the actual new FDD is fine and takes and ejects disks normally untill i install it....but my pc has another face plate on it with a button to eject the disks. I reinstalled my old FDD and it works perfectly as far as being able to put disks in and eject them...both the old FDD and the new one are identical... u got any more ideas??? please :) and i still get asked do i want to format disk...if i say yes am told windows cannot complete the format. if i say no and go to explore disk nothing happens thanx Shione

2004-07-26 01:50:00 | Had this problem with a few PC cases that have a front cover that covers the FDD. When you install the FDD into the PC case don't push it hard up against the front cover. Move it back slightly. May need to try it a few times to get it in the right place where it will work and you can still get the disk out easily. What's happing is the button on the FDD that pops out when you put a disk in isn't allowed to go all the way out which means the disk is not quite in the drive correctly so the drive has errors trying to read the disk.

2004-07-26 04:50:00 | thanx for that CYaBro:) tried and tried and tried... tried lining it up with disk in ...tried lining it up empty... got it to accept disks properly but as soon as i screwed it in place nothing again and had to revert to holding the button in and using the tweezers to get disk out ... tried old FDD just bunged it in and it works as it should as far as inserting and ejecting the disks have come to conclusion wont be buying anything else from DSE! | 255285 | 2004-07-26 04:57:00 | DSE sold you a standard floppy drive. Your computer manufacturer used a non-standard one. Curse the manufacturer. | Graham L (2) | |
2004-07-26 05:40:00 | nope sorry Graham ... they both DSE floppy drives.... my pc is a DSE pc as well a samurai and this isnt the first prob i have had with it in the 6 months i have owned ... PC has been replaced 3 times!!!! Shione

2004-07-26 05:48:00 | The local DSE should have a technician who can install a floppy drive, surely. If it's 6 months old, it's their responsibility to make it work. DSE don't actually "make" the computers they sell... they buy them from a manufacturer. Of course, there are some brand-name computers where you need tweezers to extract floppies, even when the drive is ejecting properly. They have employed "designers" who think appearance comes before function. :_|

2004-07-26 06:57:00 | sure DSE have techs...thing is tho they r in auckland and i am in Rotorua...and the pc will have to go to auckland for 3 weeks!!!!! thats why i opted to just buy a new one ...am going to take my old one in tho so they can send that to auckland and they will probably replace it but am going to try to take it back for a refundif they do and IF i can get the one they sold me working of course. | Shione83 (3380) | |
