2004-07-24 23:58:00 | I have a sony digital camera that records movies as MPEGs and I wish to play these back through a DVD player which does not recognise MPEG. Can we convert these files to VCD or SVCD or another suitable format that a DVD player can play | clayton (5927) | |

Version 1.5 can import MPEGS into Image mixer and write to VCD using standard CD-R or CD-RW media. The quality output is low though. |

2004-07-26 00:24:00 | virtually all dvd players today can play vcd which is mpeg1 but not all can play svcd which is mpeg2. to make your mpeg complaint to vcd mpeg1 then you can do the following. 1. download tmpgENC (freeware) which can re encode your mpeg . select the "pal vcd template". 2. drop your re encoded mpeg into nero burning rom and burn as a vcd. cheers Term X

2004-07-26 08:35:00 | Hi Term X - I'm a little confused - I thought M-peg 1 was for VCD , and M-PEG2 was DVD - is it also the standard for svcd ? Thanks for the clarification ... and now there's MPEG4 ... ?:| | KatiMike (242) | |
2004-07-26 13:08:00 | KatiMike yeps mpeg2 is the standard for dvd format but at a higher resolution than the mpeg2 requirements for a svcd which is designed to fit on a normal cd-r. mpeg 1 - vcd - typically 352 x 288 resolution .. fits on a cd-r mpeg 2 - svcd typically 480 x 480 resolution .. fits on a cd-r mpeg 2 - dvd typically approx 500 x 700 resolution plus menus etc etc etc.. fits on a dvd 4.7 gig single layer cheers Term X
