255216 2004-07-24 23:56:00 When I turn my Computer on it keeps telling me I have new hardware I HAVE NOT but it wont go away. Doesn't tell me what it is and at the end of my rope I said install it and it can't. DUH Sherilee (4441)
255217 2004-07-25 00:16:00 For help, we will require the Windows version....95/98/98se/NT/2000/XP ? Pheonix (280)
255218 2004-07-25 00:30:00 If you have installed a new device lately unplug it and if the message goes away you know what is causing it then uninstall the software for it, restart Windows and then when it asks you to, install the software again. Windows often doesn't like you installing the software for hardware until it has detected it. USB is different though as usually you need to install the software before plugging the hardware in. mikebartnz (21)
255219 2004-07-25 01:03:00 I have often found that this error message is about detecting the monitor. For some strange reason windows loses its settings to do with the monitor quite frequently and then you get that type of message at startup.

Try updating the videocard drivers (get these from the videocard manufacturer or the videocards chipset manufacturer) or changing the monitor type to a standard monitor (these are at the top of the monitor driver list when you work through the driver list in the hardware devices for the monitor to update them).

255221 2004-07-25 02:34:00 OK, right-click on "My computer" and select properties. Click hardware, then device manager.
Is there any yellow ! listed? If so, is there a heading it is under?

255223 2004-07-25 10:50:00 Excellent question Sherilee. I have XP Pro and just put up with this annoying message. Nothing in Devices that I can see. I'll continue to ignore it. Winston001 (3612)
255224 2004-07-25 10:55:00 Next time the ballon pops up see if you can right click it and tell XP not to try and load drivers for that device again.

Other then that you could tell the device manager to show hidden devices, quite often failed installs of printers are hidden away.

Checked under modems in Control panel for phantom modems?

Disabled devices in the bios that maybe causing it?

Mass removel of items in the device manager?
