255403 2004-07-25 13:27:00 Hey guys... my mouse has been acting funny lately... Whenever I am doing cpu intensive activities my mouse 'jumps' around like its doing 1 report a second.

Whats counts as cpu intensive? Well games for one. UT2004 suxx0rs when you're trying to frag ass but your mouse is like 12 frames behind...

It also happened today when I was ripping a cd, then i connectd to the internet and was trying to surf but the mouse was jumping again. I have one of those modems that use the cpu.

A few other things do it as well. I thought it could be something to do with the cpu priority list. It never used to do this.

The mouse is a logitec ps/2 but i also tryed a a4tech usb mouse but no difference. O/S is 2k pro.

Anyone got a solution?

Cheers.

255404 2004-07-25 20:35:00 Do you have the right the drivers for your meese? Seeing as how you tried both. MrBeef (342)
255405 2004-07-25 22:35:00 what sort of pc do you have?
cpu?
video card?
ram?

odds are its not your mouse but your whole pc is running to slow.

simply try not to rip cd's while surfing the net, exspecially with a winmodem.

also check what is ruunning in the background. your pc may be infected with something.

So what weekend was that then? I thought that on July 18th 2004 you were running Suse 9.0

Maybe your computer is infected by leftovers?

This is only applicable if you are talking about the same computer of course.

Are you having this problem under Linux?

255408 2004-07-26 12:31:00 Ooooops....

Made mistake.

You had said Win 2000 pro.

Being as you are back to the evil side I will shut up now. :-)

Seriously I suggest you check the system devices and ensure two or more hardware items are not trying to share the same resources.

255409 2004-07-26 13:12:00 Is this a mouseball or optical mouse?

Tried cleaning the ball/sensor? Small bits of gunk can make strange things happen...

255410 2004-07-28 11:35:00 Well, what do ya know.... I lied. My drives weren't defraged so I've done them but now its stopped doing it. My ball wheels are a little dirty but its not the kind of jumpy thats caused by a bit of gunge on the wheel.

Anyway I'm switching to the *nix soon (my collection of distros keeps growing) and no doubt i'll soon be doing a reinstall of win2k.

Thanks for all your help.
will
