255624 2004-07-27 00:52:00 My laptop "freezes" halfway through playing "Last of the Samuri" DVD, yet the same DVD will play satisfactorily on a regular DVD player.
"Lord of the Rings" (3hrs) played OK on laptop.
Any ideas?

255625 2004-07-27 02:29:00 could it be something to do with the laser switiching layers on the disc ?
Hard to explain why LOTR had no worries tho ...

255626 2004-07-27 02:44:00 What software are you using to play DVD's? Chilling_Silence (9)
255627 2004-07-27 02:52:00 Is it freezing, or turning off the screen/suspending because there has been no mouse or keyboard activity?

Check the BIOS power management settings.

Perhaps you touched a key while watching LOTR. ;-)

255628 2004-08-04 00:41:00 Windows Media Player; InterActual Player; Inter Video Win DVD4.

All three have the same result.

I have a suspicion that it may be an incompatibility between the DVD and the DVD drive....

255629 2004-08-04 00:52:00 It freezes but I can get to the Task Manager (Ctrl ALt Del) to shut down the player program. Laptop then operates OK

The BIOS power management settings are fine....
