255699 2004-07-27 04:17:00 Is there any way to password-protect Shutdown / Reboot in Windows XP?

We've got a few PC's that certain customers like to use, and they always seem to shutdown the PC's when they're done no matter how much we tell them they dont need to (We turn them back on while they are waiting for us to server them so they can pay).

Is there any software that can password protect shutdown/Reboot?

Cheers

255700 2004-07-27 04:32:00 If it helps, you can use gpedit.msc and change the users that are allowed to shut down the PC.
Although that means to shut down the PC you will have to log off the user that can't then log on as a user who can and then shut it down.

The setting is under Computer Configuration - Windows Settings - Security Settings - Local Policies - User Rights Assignment - Shut Down the System

Could be just what we're after as I'd like to start just keeping the PC's on 24/7 more..... :-)

Thanks, I'll post back when Ive given it a whirl

255702 2004-07-27 08:53:00 another way to try would be to rename shutdown.exe in windows\system32 then all you would need to do to shut down is to goto the run command and type in windows\system32\newshutdownname.
I m not sure how this would effect other areas of windows operation though.
