| 255503 | 2004-07-26 07:01:00 | Is it possible to have a 802.11g network set up so that as soon as my tablet PC comes into range of the base station at home, I can access my files and the Internet WITHOUT having to log on to anything. | splatman41 (68) | ||
| 255504 | 2004-07-26 09:02:00 | Yes as long as the Tablet has 802.11b/g | Berryb (654) | ||
| 255505 | 2004-07-27 07:37:00 | My tablet does have 802.11g, but HOW do you set up a network like how I said before? | splatman41 (68) | ||

I have Jetstream so have a Linksys WAG54G wireless ADSL gateway/access point. My desktop is hardwired to the gateway via a network card. This can be done with a wireless NIC. The laptop uses a wireless NIC. Once the laptop is in range then I can go straight on the internet. To get network files the Desktop PC has to be on. If you are on dialup then you don't need an ADSL gateway just an access point but the desktop has to be on to share the internet connection. Not sure but you might be able to setup an Adhoc network with the Tablet, this means no access point but only if you use dialup or an internet connection that has to be shared from the desktop. | Berryb (654) | ||

So I am presuming youy have a cd rom with the instilation of your network. I would refer you back to that and spacifically using"filters'' to add MAC addresses. go do some reading ... |

| 255508 | 2004-07-27 22:46:00 | Good point Fairway. I live in the middle of nowhere and have no security enabled on my wireless network. No one around to use my network! But even with all the security enabled still should be able to connect to the network as I described, should you not? | Berryb (654) | ||
| 255509 | 2004-07-28 08:41:00 | Yup, I can't see a problem with that at all, I can walk down the street here and have free internet for life ..(but I'm not like that) although an un-named froend of mine dod email one unsuspecting person and offered to install some security, for a small fee..... 'splatman41's issue is that he has to log on, he just want's to get into range and presto he is automatically logged on and surfing, whatever .. so to speak, well that's how I read it anyway. thinking the best way would be to add his machine in the filters and there would be no need to log on (presuming he has a linksys that is) ? Perhaps we need more information from him. Nowhere is a nice place to be with a wireless unit for sure. :-) |

| 255510 | 2004-07-28 08:58:00 | Don't think the cows over the fence are going to steal my jetstream!! When I see them walking around with aerials or the farmer with his latop in the tractor I'll do something about secruity. Some more info would be good as you say Fairway |

| 255511 | 2004-07-29 07:40:00 | Thinking on you idylic lifstyle ... and the price of milk (twice the price of coke) What about putting wireless units on the cows, you could track their progress, how full the udders are and you could hear them mooooing all day, thinl of the music you could play them to eat more grass and produce more for export ? I admire you for having/using a wireless unit in the country side .. it proves the backwaters are up with the play indeed... nothing like good technology to give reliable answers at the push of a button. Looks to me like splatman has his unit sorted? |
