256275 2004-07-29 09:22:00 I saw the mag in the supermarket today with the CD proudly attached to the front. But I didn't buy one as I have it on subscription. So where is it????????????????? robc (2685)
256276 2004-07-29 09:43:00 My local supermarkets....yes all 4 of them and many of the local service stations and bookshops remove the cd from the magazine and store them behind the counter to stop people stealing them. Most shops have a large sticker on the stand stating that they are stored at the front counter. dipstick01 (445)
256277 2004-07-29 22:09:00 That pretty much has to be intentional breakage Andrew, like taking the CD out and snapping it, then putting it back .

I have received my PCW and a variety of other mags & mail with CDs inside and have never received a broken CD . That was with the old style narrow PO Box too, the new boxes allow the mag to be inserted flat .

You might be interested to see exactly how hard it is to snap a CD like that . I was curious so I just tried to break one and failed miserably . I found that it is virtually impossible to snap a CD inside a magazine as it will always slide in or out to allow the fold .

Even if you get it positioned so that you can apply bending pressure, it takes a mighty effort to actually break it and I didn't succeed because it was too awkward . Only a more dedicated effort would have succeeded, but then, I'm not a postal sorter .

In that case, I think we have a number of dedicated postal workers :D

Like Andrew, I've just recvd the latest PCWorld, via a PO Box, folded neatly in half and complete with a 2-piece CD (some assembly required??)

I too was impressed by PCW, who had a new CD in my hand (in a solid cardboard container this time) the next day.

If that is the case then you had better report it to the bosses at NZ Post . They have postal sorting machinery for envelopes which can be a bit rough sometimes but magazines are handled manually, not put through the machines .

If someone has done that deliberately, or even accidentally, I wouldn't let that go without complaining .

Good point actually- I just tried a Viewsonic Monitor Driver CD, a Pastel Accounting CD and an Imation CD-R CD all of them (when placed inside the magazine) would bend over like a fishing rod with a big kingi on the end of it without breaking - so I guess it would be wise to take heed of disgruntled postal workers (and their strong hands) .
