255972 2004-07-28 03:15:00 I'm running a small wired network of winXP pc's (2 laptops, 2 desktops), through a hardware switch and router. I'm wanting to keep an eye on network traffic (don't need fancy bells/whistles) so am looking for a decent freeware network monitor. Any recommendations?? Spartacus (3313)
255973 2004-07-28 03:20:00 an older free version of winroute,no idea if you can find it though. metla (154)
255974 2004-07-29 04:27:00 I found Ethersnoop (freeware) here (http://www.arechisoft.com) and am giving it a go: initial indications are that it will do the job - doesn't appear to offer host resolution unfortunately, but does give full packet breakdown of some of the more common protocols. 255975 2004-07-29 05:00:00 Have a look at these (www.distrowatch.com), there should be one that fits your needs, most will exceed them. Some will run off a CD or floppy.

255976 2004-07-29 05:34:00 Thanks Murray - those suggestions look like they'd be exactly what I'd be needing... if I was running Linux. Unfortunately, for windows XP the choices appear much more limited.

Cheers,
S
