1366760 2014-02-03 08:04:00 Hi guys
so I have a HP Pavilion TouchSmart 15-b107au Sleekbook which has been faulty since I purchased it...touchscreen issue, they repaired it, now it hardly works unless the screen is tilted forwards and backwards

Asked HP for a replacement, it is an end of line product, alternative model offered is the Hewlett Packard F0C06PA Pavilion 15-E016 15.6" AMD A6 Notebook

only difference I can see is no touchscreen (that I can see)- since I've had nothing but trouble with my current model touchscreen, do you think I should accept this?? Thx

1366761 2014-02-03 08:30:00 Looks like the replacement is faster than the one that youre replacing. And it's got 8 GB not 4 GB ram. So must have (or should have ) 64 bit Win8, and a bigger hdd (750 GB - 500 GB for the one you're replacing) Speedy Gonzales (78)
1366762 2014-02-04 03:12:00 Not sure what to do! asked Hp what they would offer with touchscreen, they said this model:
Pavilion TouchSmart 15-n005tu Notebook PC

so it's out of the touchsmart and the Hewlett Packard F0C06PA Pavilion 15-E016 15.6" AMD A6 Notebook

Which do you guys think is better??

Why did you need a touch screen computer? was it specific to the type of work you do?

1366764 2014-02-04 03:19:00 No it wasn't really , just thought it'd be neat to try one...nothing but trouble with the one I have but I'm sure they're not all like that!

Which do you suggest?

Go with the replacement one. If touch screen is not essential to what you do then it shouldn't be a big loss to you.

I think the idea of touch is fine but it's more suited to being on a gesture type mouse pad than on the entire screen when it comes to laptops. Its fine for drawing stuff but if all you do is word documents, look at a few photos, browse the web, emails and the occasional spreadsheet then you are probably better off without a touch screen laptop.

Just on a side note, but why do computer makers insist on naming their PC models with every f***ing letter of the alphabet? Why don't they just call it HP 15 inch touch screen laptop and be done with it. It would save a whole lot of customer confusion. At the end of the day you are a customer, not a computer science major.

I guess so. According to Speedy they are so I'd go with that. As long as it does what you want it to do it should be fine

Because they have different models with different hardware, if they called them all the same name no one would know what they had. :)

Sometimes it can be damn confusing esp when getting parts, now is it model abc.1 or abc.1.a --- Had it happen several times trying to order a part and several different models have the same part number , there may be on minor difference between parts / models and that really throws the cat in among the pigeons :angry

Some differentiation is fine and obviously necessary ;) but you get to a point where it just becomes confusing for the customer which defeats the purpose for the business.
