1366365 2014-01-29 07:06:00 I have an Imac running OS X 10.5.8.
In System Preferences > Startup Disk, it shows 3 options, a hard disk called Macintosh HD with Mac OS X 10.5.8 on it, a hard disk called Mac with Mac OS X 10.4.11 on it and Network Startup.

Option 1 is selected and loads 10.5.8 but the only Hard Disk icon on the desktop is one labelled Mac, the one containing 10.4.11 and opening it shows all the folders and files that go with that system.

My question is, how do I get the disk called Macintosh HD to show on the desktop so I can open it and access the files and folders for that system?

I am comparatively new to OS X and find the philosophy very different to windows which I understand quite well.
Would welcome any help available on this.

1366366 2014-01-29 07:16:00 Sounds like it's carried over the old system folder when it's been upgraded. Does the macintosh hard drive show up in the finder window? plod (107)
1366367 2014-01-29 07:23:00 Sorry you will have to give it to me click by click - what is the finder window and how do I display it? jinja_thom (4306)
1366368 2014-01-29 07:27:00 Ok. It should be the most left icon on the dock. plod (107)
1366369 2014-01-29 07:28:00 Finder is the Mac equivalent of Windows Explorer Agent_24 (57)
1366370 2014-01-29 07:30:00 No it only shows Mac and Network jinja_thom (4306)
1366371 2014-01-29 07:52:00 You can download this omnidisksweeper.en.softonic.com This will show all drives installed according to size. I'm wondering if someone has dropped the macintosh folder into the mac folder. Omidisk will show you the path for folders to find plod (107)
1366372 2014-01-29 08:05:00 Thanks I will give it a go.
I have expanded everything in Mac and sorted on date modified and found a lot of activity pre August 2007 and post September 2013 and nothing in between so it looks like the update was done in Sept 2013 and everything dumped in the one system folder.

Might take some sorting out!!!
