1347925 2013-07-03 22:27:00 Just going off-topic . Been trialing Gmail, there is online or thru a web client, ignoring the time it takes to sync that can be slow but it's also slow if one was to look at the sent folder and hit the delete command but anyway I note that the common version of home/student version of MS Office no longer include MS Outlook so could it be that many people now are just using webmail . With the phones and tablets maybe that is where we are at .

Call me old fashion, I tend to archive my emails, have done so for the 15yrs and for my secondary email account they are mostly deleted but I do keep the invoices of things for a few years I have bought like computer parts for warranty reasons . Cloud/webmail has a reliance on a internet connection right and it's more difficult to store years of emails online and then having to search thru them and the what if question - if it gets an Yahoo like outage, one could use a email client to back it up but how does one transfer it back online off another email address . I've been looking at how to store emails offline on the phone itself, correct me if I am wrong but it doesn't store offline emails more than a few day old, so then we might be relying on a 3rd party app but how safe is that as in a long term approach . In the not so recent days, if we are on the road and catcing up with people, we could just look up locally for the person's contact details or their prev email but now one has to log onto the internet . Esp when one leaves their home country .

In many schools they now use Outlook . com webmail too . Is there a split from school/home to the workplace as I understand many workplaces still use a older style email approach .

Any thoughts?

The last version of Office to include Outlook in all retail editions was 2003 .

But yes, in general there is a big shift towards hosted mail services due to the widespread use of multiple devices and locations needing to access a mailbox .
