1347669 2013-07-01 21:06:00 I borrowed a bit extra recently on the mortgage for some things.

Didn't ask for anything other than the money, wasn't sure they would either....but they did.

He reduced the term (I was paying more than I needed to, so payments weren't an issue, so he figured I'd like to pay for less time, LOL), however I just the other week increased it the payments again, asked them via message online in internet banking (I like to pay more than needed), and when checking today to see if they have actioned the increased payments, I noticed:

Negotiated Interest Rate: XX%

He put that down for 2 years as well, by .20% - never asked for it, I'm on floating.....nice bank manager!

1347670 2013-07-01 21:26:00 I'm guessing it's not the ****ing ANZ ... fred_fish (15241)
1347671 2013-07-01 22:17:00 Nice to hear positive stories, I just recently asked my bank to split off 80% of my mortgage and set it at the 5 yr rate (trying to get serious about paying it off).
No change in amount, just how I was paying it off. After about 2 months of jumping through hoops and a blood test for the insurance which they claim to have never received the results for I finally got what I asked for - by cancelling the insurance and opting for a cheaper loan protection policy.

I have over 60% equity in the house, I don't see why the loan should be held up by life/loan protection insurance. Totally frustrating experience, the people I spoke to were all very polite and helpful on the phone but that didn't make anything happen very fast. On a positive note they were very apologetic and have dropped the interest rate a bit to try and make up for it so a win in the end.

No insurances either - that sounds like an ANZ thing....

1347674 2013-07-02 00:46:00 When the rates were coming down at a steady rate mum rang ANZ and they chopped .5% off their interest rate. Alex B (15479)

1347676 2013-07-02 05:34:00 Like Prefect, I too am mortgage free and have been for about the same time. It's great! Now we can spend our money any way we want - and we do.

I would encourage anyone with a mortgage to start paying off the principle if they can. Next thing you know, you're mortgage free! It's a fantastic feeling.
