1347321 2013-07-03 21:54:00 I take Lordnoddy's post as a dig at overconfident males rather than a slur against females. :)

That it was Clive... well read.

@ Jen - No offence :) and I'm not too ashamed to say a lady such as yourself is more intelligent than I...

Isn't it funny you never hear "Dude.... Bing it!" or "Dude... Yahoo it!".

1347324 2013-07-04 07:40:00 Got mine today, they are very cool! The two warm/cool white lights are great, very easy to setup, the brightness and colour temp control is great. I, too didn't read the manual, but I did read Chill's blurb earlier, and found it all very easy to setup. Syncing the remote and Androip app was quick and easy. Very impressed. I pretty much reflect what Chill said about them, also the notes about the firmware on the bridge. it doesn't much like Chrome or Firefox. :p

The colour bulb is very cool, however it's not fantastic (at least in my opinion) as a 'normal' light. The white light is cold, almost light blue. The colours are amazing though, and very bright. Fantastic for a bit of mood lighting, in the setup I have, they are just ceiling mounted, and only with a real basic plastic light shade. I think if they were behind a cloudy glass shade, the white would look a lot less harsh, and the colours would look even better.

The one thing I was hoping to do, was to be able to control the lights from my second access point. For some reason, I don't seem to be able to communicate with the bridge from the other access point.

Setup goes like this..

Modem/Wifi Router (house) -> ethernet cable -> second wireless access point (bridge connected to this). If my phone is on the same access point as the bridge, it works fine, but if I'm on the access point inside, it doesn't communicate.

I've got no funny firewalls, the second AP is just that, a dumb AP. I can't browse to the IP of the bridge from my phone on the wireless inside, but I can if the phone is connected to the same AP. A computer on the wireless inside can browse to the bridge, so that seems a bit odd...

I haven't tried one of the remotes though.

Any thoughts on that?

Edit - never mind, it started working. :p

However, well recovered with using both lady and intelligent in the same sentence. :D

1347326 2013-07-04 10:14:00 I'm a bit tempted myself, how do the white lights compare to a 20W CFL for brightness? I've been waiting for LED's to get cheaper before making the switch but I've been a bit dubious about the light output of many I've seen being only in the 60-75W incandescent equivalent range. My plan was to start replacing any blown bulbs with LEDs from now on but my CFLs take years to blow so that's not going to happen fast - a couple I installed in 08/1999 are still going (the hall and spare bedroom that don't get that much use) and the rest have only been replaced over the last 2-3 years (I did the whole house when I bought it in 1999) so in my experience CFLs have been very reliable (except for about 5-10%ish failing within a few months for me).

Also it's hard to find direct comparisons but looking at lumens vs wattage they only seem about the same or very slightly better than CFL's in efficiency for the most part, some brands claim more and it's a different kind of light so the perceived effect may not relate directly to the numbers. They do have other advantages of course. I discovered for example that CFL's during the first 1-2Min warm up period actually use close to 5 times as much power as they do from then on, making them largely pointless for sensor lights some of which won't function properly with a CFL anyway. I replaced all my outdoor sensor lights with 50W halogens and the improvement in light quality over the 12W CFLs is huge, I would be interested in LED's for that if I can find some that fight in a coach light ir bulkhead style fitting.

1347327 2013-07-04 12:14:00 So stevo018, what deal could you do for 12 white bulbs?
We've got three big pendant lights in our lounge that take 4 bulbs in each.
Currently have two CFL bulbs in two of them and the other just has one because at the time that was all electrical shop had in stock. Never got around to getting the rest.
We have LED light fittings everywhere else, bought from Wattsaver in Aus.

1347328 2013-07-06 10:33:00 So is the Wifi Bridge a must or will it work from either the Wifi on my router a linksys wifi bridge or even better the Truenet Wifi bridge I have here, I have enough Wifi floating around the house now I don't really want more? Burt_Munroe (17118)
