On the other hand if it wasn't for the rail workshops, government print, post office etc. there probably be a lack of skilled tradesman around One of the biggest problems was also when the Tradesmen left so did a lot of skills. The good days of doing an apprenticeship 4-5 years of being taught the basic's and also the "tricks of the trade" that no text book can ever do. ;) Been there when it was government run and private -- funds obviously tighter when private, but still plenty of challenging projects. the Ganz overhauls ( 1st time) trans Alpine conversions just to name a few. Some of the skills are rusty but could easily do them again - once learnt - never forgotten. One thing about the Auckland System - lets say for a moment it goes ahead -- WHO is going to service the trains ? Doesn't matter who builds them, they WILL all need servicing along with the track. |

Combine that with low wages, high expenses, out of control local debt, woohhooo All of thats in place, so take the bus, Bus people, take the bus. Then you get dipshit articles about kiwis hurting the environment by not updating their cars as often as their pants. Rego should be $5, Surely its just a record of what the car is and who owns it. |

As i do not live in any large city that has a public transport crisis i just watch and listen mostly as i dont understand the need......... but what i do wonder is........... is that council running like a business or a charity............ does all the money they earn get eaten up on the paper war and the politics before the actual effort or grunt work is done? if they had to account for every cent earnt and where it goes would it change anything? |

| 1347235 | 2013-06-29 01:23:00 | During the last week the trains running from petone to wellington have been no go(mon-wed). I work next door to the te puni mail centre, the time I get to work at 6.50am the majority of parks have gone and the traffic has been backed up to almost railway ave. luckily for me I'm commenting on a bike and just wizz past the traffic. I have now seen how important public transport is | plod (107) | ||
