No wonder people who dont use linux all the time get confused with whats what ;).

As I said its running sweet now -- Not having the program is costing him $$ he said. Funny only went to his place to fix a Vista PC and get this as well --------- thems the breaks, pity the iPad problem couldn't be fixed :)

1366451 2014-01-31 20:51:00 What you couldn't make him see sense and buy a real tablet? Well, lets just say , both Apple support, Apple in general were not exactly in the good books at the time :D To say she was a little annoyed is an understatement. wainuitech (129)
1366452 2014-02-02 13:33:00 PS: Re-installing is not an option as theres several programs on it that are required, that the person had written for him which can no longer be obtained.
Sometimes a program can run in its own directory like in the old DOS days so you can just copy the directory over. That is how I used to run the latest builds of Firefox. It will probably depend on what lib's it uses.

Absolutely no more confusing than when you go ver in W7 and get:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601].
May I respectfully suggest that you get to know your subject before you criticise it.

If I knew about it I wouldn't be asking for help, would I.

So before making comments like you did above, think about whats written previously.

1366455 2014-02-03 07:17:00 Linux really is the kernel - the splash screen is showing the kernel version which can be upgraded during the life of the distribution (RedHat 9 in this case). The distribution splash screen will come up later on. johnd (85)

1366457 2014-02-03 07:26:00 OK. It is a long time since I used RH9 - if it doesn't tell you on boot then there will be somewhere easy to find it in the GUI. johnd (85)
1366458 2014-02-03 07:43:00 OK. It is a long time since I used RH9 - if it doesn't tell you on boot then there will be somewhere easy to find it in the GUI. Sorry, No GUI or even a desktop.

Heres the startup / running sequence:

Boots to the screen shot I posted before, screen goes blank for 1-2 seconds (at the very most, blink and you miss it), text scrolling relating to hardware being checked/loading - then a EULA pops up relating to the usage of the program, click Agree and the program opens.

Program meaning the single usage program the OS was used to run it. There is no visible options to go to to a desktop, terminal etc, pressing Ctrl + Alt + T ( open terminal) does nothing. The only items you can change is relating to the program.

Basically it's a single use program with Redhat as the base. When closing the program,it shuts down the computer.
