1347454 2013-06-30 06:01:00 Thanks for that. I'll get a head unit and have a look at speakers and check out the amp if it's needed. Seems like the Pioneer are worth a look from what has been said about the JVC and the Fusion has 10% THD. I may as well go for less just in case so the Pioneer MVH-155UI is 5%.
Cheers,

1347455 2013-07-01 00:40:00 10% is pretty bad.
But 10% at what power level, thats the important part.
Specs are usually tweaked so they appear better than they actually are.

Whats the THD of your speakers (that may surprise you)

1347456 2013-07-01 05:33:00 Hi, I don't have speakers yet just looking at the head unit first although I'll probably buy them together. asdex (1488)
1347457 2013-07-03 21:09:00 Hi, thought I would get a Pioneer MVH-155UI. It seems to be a Australian/New Zealand model so there isn't many reviews. The other option was the JVC KD-X200 and there alot of reviews for this. The JVC sounds a bit complex to use and doesn't run a portable HD. the THD is low at 1%.
The Pioneer must have an overseas model name but I can't find it. Anyone know so I can find some reviews?
Thanks,

1347458 2013-07-03 21:43:00 If you arrange for speakers and enclosures with reasonable efficiency, you may find that 5 watts can rattle crockery. Very few speakers released lately would manage to approach even 5%, and car speakers even less so. Efficiency means you only need enough watts to produce sound; get your heating from elsewhere, not your battery supply. R2x1 (4628)
1347459 2013-07-03 22:20:00 Getting back to your THD figures, it all depends on the power output level at which it was measured, and if it was at full power then it may be far less at a more reasonable volume level . Before any comment can be made about THD levels it is necessary to know the power output at which it was measured .

Hi five! Information FTW .

Pretty much any hifi component will return 10%, 1%, 0 . 1% or whatever% THD you want, cheap ones just won't be able to maintain low THD % at higher power output . It's a meaningless figure by itself .

If the industry had any ethics they'd all agree on the same % to market their **** at, and just advertise the wattage (which is also meaningless by itself) .
