Tax is national, the govt can do what it likes with it, lets not argue that they can't because we all know they can and do. We are discussing this at a more local level, rates etc. Tax is tax, its not my money never was. Rates, petrol tax, tolls etc etc these are MY money, and I do not believe for a instant that Auckland money helps the rest of the country. |

You will if the Gov has the balls to keep the Auckland tax take in Auckland.. I bet Auckland taxes are paying the bulk of the CH rebuild.. |

| 1347211 | 2013-06-28 01:55:00 | The benefit-cost ratio of the City Rail Link sits around $2.50 of returns for every $1 spent - that's a fantastic return. Another figure just pulled out of the air, by those with vested interests . Who really believes that. A blog entry is not proof or anything like it These things run at a huge loss, worldwide. Heres a actual real number for you. From council reports Av Train use , approx 18,500 people per weekday (assuming 2 trips per day) Thats b8gger all (hence you dont often see dayly usage reports, annual usage make the number look much better) The big question is.. how is this all going to be paid for. Ak councill allready spends more than it collects in rates, hence the never ending borrowing . Its planned date is so far out that Ak councils credit/borrowing may have dried up by then :devil btw, my bus trip where the bus had 3 people in it for 1/3 of the trip was approx 5.30pm, on the way home from work. |

The $2.50 figure is approximate and comes from council reports, and even the Government's report had this figure over 1. Heres a actual real number for you. From council reports Av Train use , approx 18,500 people per weekday (assuming 2 trips per day) Thats b8gger all (hence you dont often see dayly usage reports, annual usage make the number look much better) Considering Britomart is at capacity of 10,500 people per hour I'd have to question those figures. The big question is.. how is this all going to be paid for. Ak councill allready spends more than it collects in rates, hence the never ending borrowing . Its planned date is so far out that Ak councils credit/borrowing may have dried up by then Petrol taxes, tolls, congestion charges, public transport charges - those who benefit pays. ;) btw, my bus trip where the bus had 3 people in it for 1/3 of the trip was approx 5.30pm, on the way home from work. Huh, because trains at that time are full as well. |

| 1347213 | 2013-06-28 02:18:00 | I hope they decided on another bridge rather than a tunnel. And something needs to be done as the current bridge will not last forever. I'm not in Auckland, but agree that the country should help a bit. Get China to build it, and it will be done in a few years. |

| 1347215 | 2013-06-28 02:46:00 | AK car drivers will just not tolerate - ANOTHER petrol tax : what happened to the last 2 petrol taxes increases that were 'to pay for transport systems' - rates increases : That just wont fly . - congestion charges :its just another tax & is not fair to those who have no choice but to use a car (my job REQUIRES me to use my car) - Borrow the $ : Ak council has so much debt that Ak has had its credit rating downgraded. There have been many warnings that Ak Council has far too much debt & is allready unsustainable. It has to eventually be paid back. I think its at approx $1000 per ratepayer at the mo. So all you ratepayers, you actually owe the banks another $1000+ , & increasing. Want to double it ? - charging the actual/real costs to the train/bus users : if that happened no-one could afford to use them So Auckland is in the sh1t again, and expects the rest of the country to bail them out, or build a rail system that only will be used by people in Auckland ? Yeah that'll work great  What about other cities that have transport problems ? Take wellington - not enough trains as it is, maintence is cut down to bare minimum, and some repairs only get done when absolutely necessary. WhenI used to working the railway workshops, I can tell you now there used to be a regular maintenance programs, refurbishing units, locos etc, that's all gone now. You want to live in Auckland, and have a rail system - pay for it with Aucklands residents taxes - Hate to advise, but Auckland is NOT the whole of NZ. |
