You're probably thinking of the Arduino. Raspberry Pi has the CPU in a BGA package which are quite hard to solder properly at home.

I read a article about using it to produce sound in RC models. I thought it would work well in my boats.
I am hoping I can programme it using a tablet over a LAN while the boat is in use (I need to investigate that side of it much more before I will know that)

The system will need to run Raspbian Wheezy Linux and have Python and Pygame installed.
