1366410 2014-01-30 01:54:00 Hi Team,

I've got a HP Pavilion dv6-1215AX, a pretty old laptop supposed to be running Vista Home Prem for me to look at.

Pressing the ON power switch brings up all the usual indicator lights, fan spins, can hear the HDD spins up noise, all the necessary noises and lights except that nothing shows up on the display monitor screen.

This what I've done:

1. Removed the battery, unplugged the AC Adaptor over night, pressed and hold the ON button for >10 seconds; no joy.
2. Plugged in an external monitor - nothing positive changes - still no display on external monitor;
3. Removed memory RAM stick, replaced with a known to-be-good stick doesn't change anything;
4. Replaced HDD with a known to-be-good HDD - same, no display

Faulty mainboard? I don't have a replacement Mainboard to swap. What shall I do next before declaring it's not worthwhile repairing?

Thanks.

1366412 2014-01-30 02:30:00 Yes, it has got VGA and I connected it to a monitor but still not working.

It has also got a HDMI but unfortunately I don't have a HDMI cable to play with

1366413 2014-01-30 02:36:00 Some laptops have keyboard function keys to switch between the built in screen and an external one. Might be worth a try.
On my work laptop it cycles between modes with each push of the button like;- built in screen -> external screen -> both -> back to built in

1366414 2014-01-30 02:40:00 This "could" be one cause ----- :2cents: HP DV6's & some DV7's have a nasty rep for over heating, and causing the Mainboard to fry or the graphic chip needs to be reflowed/soldered - one fix was a new board, but they are not cheap. wainuitech (129)
1366415 2014-01-30 03:14:00 Tried those function keys, the keyboard doesn't seem to be responding at all. The Cap Lock light is blinking but when I pressed the cap lock key, it doesn't go away - not responding. bk T (215)

What the Blinks Mean - Chart (h30434.www3.hp.com) - Scroll down a little --- They all mean a failure :(
