1347514 2013-06-30 08:36:00 Petrol tax is set to rise by three cents per litre at the start of July this year and will continue to rise for the next two years. 1 July is tomorrow so I guess that there will be queues at the petrol stations tonight before midnight.
A Transport Ministry official has estimated the increase in excise would cost each driver an additional $45 a year. Read here. (www.nzherald.co.nz)

1347515 2013-06-30 09:11:00 They're using this tax to pay for the Roads of National Significance yet at the same time selling assets to fund the City Rail Link and telling the council to do the same. Sigh. pcuser42 (130)
1347516 2013-06-30 20:46:00 Queues....it's silly really, 3c a litre is nothing on a full tank in most cars....$1.50 in mine.
Son and I have been noting where petrol is cheapest, as he drives a long way each day he gets to see a lot of them.

Used to be cheapest in Swanson Rd for ages - $1.99, but then New Lynn/Kelston became the cheapest.

Also his one out Waiuku went right down, a good 10c - 12c cheaper than the rest.

Haven't checked for a week or so, but Swanson was $2.06 yesterday - Friday they were $1.96....not sure about New Lynn.

+1, starting your car up to go fill the tank costs you more than that. Never make a special trip to "save" money on gas, rather just try to incorporate it into a trip you are already making. Making a habit of not going out of your way for petrol will save you more than whatever few cents a litre difference you can find will.

1347518 2013-06-30 21:50:00 When SWMBO was out of work a couple of years ago and I used to cycle to work, she would only take the car out if she had 3 or more things to do such as groceries, visit her mother, post parcels. If there was only one thing she left it to the next day or the day after until there were enough to justify taking the car gary67 (56)

Yeah things like that are the best way to save fuel . 3c a litre isn't gonna be the end of the world... Most wouldn't notice it on a weekly basis.

+1. My fuel bill varies more than that.

Unfortunately they are going to up it 3C twice more I read in the news so it will have an impact then as wages are not raising at the same rate
