1478416 2021-07-02 23:58:00 We go over to the sports field in Glen Eden (Auckland) to watch our grandson play soccer and right through the game there are birds, about the same size as sparrows with pointy wings, that fly around about 20cm to 30cm above the ground even while the boys are playing.

I was wondering, does anybody know what sort of birds they are? :help:I have never seen them anywhere else.

Don't think so, Ken. They are too small for Swallows.

1478420 2021-07-03 02:26:00 They will be Swifts. Look them up on Google. They are remarkable birds, one of the fastest on the wing for their body size. Bryan (147)

Thank you, Bryan. I think that you are most probably correct. The birds I saw do move fairly quickly, but I do wonder why they fly so close to the ground.

1478424 2021-07-03 20:36:00 There fare are insects close to the ground and generally airborne. As I said, check google for more info. They are incredible birds! Bryan (147)
1478425 2021-07-03 21:20:00 They are flying low as they are football birds and want to join in the game but get confused when everyone calls it soccer. gary67 (56)
