Why should Maori be any different. I do object to the Maori language being force fed to us on our TV news with random phrases being thrown in by pakeha news readers every chance they get which add nothing to an english speaking audience. 1479129 2021-08-06 23:17:00 Another thing I don't understand: When I went to school in the late 50s, early 60s, we were taught about the maori wars. Nowadays they call it the land wars. Why is that? Are they trying to say that the colonists were not fighting the maoris? Of course they were. So that's why they were called the maori wars.:annoyed: Roscoe (6288)

I agree, if these announcers are going to speak Maori then they should be taught it properly, not just any Maori word in anywhere.

I laughed on one news item the announcer crossed to a reporter and greeted her with Haere Ra.

I thought how rude greeting someone with goodbye. :)

I, too, agree. Not only should they be taught it properly, but how about a translation as well? I'm certain the majority have no idea what they are going on about.:illogical

1479133 2021-08-09 00:36:00 I love how the TV news and weather presenters go overboard with Maori pronunciation but come to common English words like Tuesday and you get Choosedee. paulw (1826)
