1478658 2021-07-13 11:02:00 What was your favourite radio programme? And what years were you listening?

A program that has stuck in my mind from the early 1950's was a Si-Fi adventure series called "Journey to Mars" and its follow up "Lost in space". I think it was a BBC production and was notable for the first use on radio of electronically generated sound effects.

But I did not know he was on You Tube. Thanks for letting me know. I will definitely have a listen.:D

Yes that's true I think I have every book he wrote on my bookshelf, lets face it a house isn't a home without a full or overflowing bookshelf. I also have all of the Goons as .mp3 too.

1478662 2021-07-14 00:52:00 Radio NZ still has audio strories from generally NZ authors on late at night (about 11pm?) I'm great at missing the first episode, and only catching episodes 2-7 out of 8 the_bogan (9949)
1478663 2021-07-14 02:28:00 My favourite was the Goons on my old Crystal Set and later Hikers One.

Ahhhh Neddy it’s dark in here.

Is it, hang on, I’ll light a match and see.

1478664 2021-07-14 03:07:00 238 episodes plus 12 specials. Great days those. As you say B.M. Chrystal set was the best way. Mum and Dad thought it was rubbish! Then everyone talking Goon at school the next day.

Ken :)

1478665 2021-07-14 03:12:00 Ah radio in the late 50s and early 60s.. Journey Into Space, Life With Dexter. Take it from here, Laugh till you cry, Radio Roadhouse, The Goon show, Hancocks half hour, that was usually Sundays. Saturday varied with ones like Ben Hur. Cleopatra. Weekdays at nite plenty especially from 9.00pm and later. like Wake of the Red Witch, Hitler's Treasure. Kids programs like Dan Dare, Biggles, The Nth Planet. All seem to come to an end about 1964 when TV took over. Still got a set of disks somewhere of Journey into Space and a cassette of Life With Dexter.

1478666 2021-07-14 03:18:00 The ability to create fantastical images by word and voice alone. Quite incredible feats without the images of film and tv to spoil true artistry. Bryan (147)
