1479157 2021-08-09 00:10:00 Apparently today (Monday 9th) is World Indigenous Peoples' Day. That leaves the maoris out then. Although some people call them "indigenous," their own stories tell of their travel from another land. They came here more than 1000 years ago from their mythical Polynesian homeland of Hawaiki.

The only indigenous people I can think of are the aborigines of Australia. There are, no doubt, others, but the maoris do not belong to that class of people.

1479158 2021-08-09 00:38:00 Apparently you have no idea what Indigenous actually means

The Māori (/ˈmaʊri/,[6] Māori: [ˈmaːɔɾi] are the indigenous Polynesian people of mainland New Zealand. Māori originated with settlers from eastern Polynesia, who arrived in New Zealand in several waves of waka (canoe) voyages between roughly 1320 and 1350. Over several centuries in isolation, these settlers developed their own distinctive culture, whose language, mythology, crafts, and performing arts evolved independently from those of other eastern Polynesian cultures. Some early Māori moved to the Chatham Islands where their descendants became New Zealand's other indigenous Polynesian ethnic group, the Moriori

Yes, I noticed that. The author seems to contradict himself: Indigenous. relating to or being a people who are the original, earliest known inhabitants of a region, or are their descendants:

The maoris, according to their own mythology, were not the original inhabitants. They killed the Morioris, the original inhabitants. Apparently some of them escaped to the Chatham Islands.

1479164 2021-08-09 02:41:00 When I was at school the test for Indigenous People was whether they could be traced anywhere else.

At the time only the Australian Aborigine and American Red Indian qualified.

The Maori disqualify themselves by claiming they came in four canoes and there is plenty of evidence that there were other people here before them.
