It is the free version of Microsoft Office and is compatible with Office documents.

I have been using Softmaker for about a year now and highly recommend it. Softmaker has everything that Microsoft Office has. I am more than satisfied.

1474877 2021-02-06 02:23:00 Yep, its a good free Office, I install it on customers computers if they have outdated or no versions of Office. Now if one of the office suite providers like Softmaker would include a version of Outlook, then it that would be good as well. :) wainuitech (129)

www.openoffice.org say its not recommended, but now there are lots more Options. Some are free some are paid for but a lot cheaper. Open office is now Libre Office.

A couple of Others --Only Office - Free and paid versions. https://www.onlyoffice.com/ Has versions for Windows and Linux.

Another -- Ability Office - www.ability.com Not free but cheaper than MS Office.

One of the biggest advantages of Microsoft Office is its capable of integrating right away with many other items/ tasks in the MS range of products, where as the others don't.

They all have their advantages and disadvantages, just depends on what you want to do or prefer.

Libre Office is recommended over OpenOffice now ?

MS Office 2010 still works perfectly , although not officially supported any more .
There was even a 'Free' MS Office , MS Office 2010 Starter . (sort of free , but not really)

1474881 2021-02-15 01:11:00 OpenOffice vs Libre Office is the same situation as Ethereal vs. Wireshark.

They split because the people doing all the work didn't own the rights to the name and a disagreement followed.

So Wireshark and LibreOffice are the two to use except that now you have option of Softmaker Free Office which is a great option as per the above posts.
