256569 2004-07-29 21:59:00 My ADSL connection dropped last night about 12.30am. When I rebooted the router I am now getting 250 kbs download speeds (yay), but gaming pings are twice the normal (boo).

With Orcon 256k. Anyone else get this?

Connection now at dial up speed :(

Spoke to Orcon, they advise that there is a problem with a Telecom 'Ran' (what's that?) and have changed the Ran I connect to. Telecom's help page says there is an unscheduled outage. grrr

256571 2004-07-30 04:15:00 Well my ADSL dropped out at about 8:30pm ish. I tried Jetstream games and got a connection but with Paradise it kept coming up User name or passowrd error.

With this I assumes it was Paradise system rebooting or something. I left it to its own devices and when I came back an hour later it was connected again.

256572 2004-07-30 05:59:00 Had the same issue as you John, except I got server unavailible or some such. What I did notice was the router rebooting, all the lights would come on (pwr, diag, lan, ?? and dsl), 5 in all when I have only ever seen 4 before, the manual says there are 4 then id would die and slowly go through its start up routine. No messages of power outages from my UPS. Went into the routers setup, all was fine, hit home and I was into PF1 in a flash, real strange?? I suspect Telecom fiddling around with the switching somwhere along the line.

Very Convenietly I have the September 2002 PCWorld Mag next to me. It has a look inside XTRA HQ

According to it it's a Random Access Node, and it sits between the DSL equipment and the Router.
