| 256512 | 2004-07-29 14:34:00 | Just read zqwerty's * heads up* a few minutes ago in the AVG post running currently. Looks like this one's out of date in its timing...like old hat by now. Still curious about why so big, though - and what are the new nasties that need so much space? |

Mmmm.... gotta love JetSurf. ;-) :D > Still curious about why so big, though - and what are the new nasties that need so much space? Just guessing here but I would say that the database gets rewritten every now and then to include all the latest updates, a bit like a "full" backup as opposed to an "incremental" backup, where only the latest definitions are added. So for someone downloading the AVG program today their version would have the full range of virus definitions included, but if they downloaded AVG yesterday they would need to also download the updates after installing. After downloading this latest update I was asked to close Eudora (email client) before AVG could install it, which is what normally happens with a biggie like this, but not with the little updates. That must mean that the AVG engine has been updated as well. Does all that make sense? I am hopeless at explaining things. :-( |

| 256514 | 2004-07-29 22:59:00 | Hi people, Not too sure whats going on with AVG but could not down load the first update on the page as usual ie: Update number 732 Minimum version 731 Size 1343 bytes Update file u617mhvw . bin Could only download the next on the list as so: Update number 732 Minimum version 640 Size 2705833 bytes u617mav4 . bin Now dont know if that makes any differents or not . Mybe just diff version numbers . :D The last post made was for version 6 . 0 . 730 database 485 Todays version 6 . 0 . 732 database 486 A jump in the version numbers but not the database number . Hell just ranting and woffling here, must be paranoia . cheers merlin-nz ;-) |

| 256515 | 2004-07-29 23:08:00 | Hi Just been back to AVG site and found the History page ie: Added detection of new viruses Worm/Lemb. Added detection of new variants of Worm/Padobot, Worm/Kibuv, Worm/Agobot, I-Worm/Silva. Answers a couple of things for me and why the numbers of the versions or databases run in order : bugger I missed one or two must come out when in bed and then another just before I get up. :D cheers merlin-nz ;-) |
