256353 2004-07-29 07:12:00 Greetings I have win2k

My little internet icon always shows 40.0 kbps when I put the pointer over it. It never varies, irrespective of the time of day or whatever. How can i get it to show me realtime performance?

I have zone alarm and norton antivirus. Frequently when i am on the net and click on a link a liitle window comes up telling me i cant go there. The window is too small to see what it says, or which product is preventing me. Just now I was in sorted.co.nz and when i clicked on the mortgage calculator, it wouldnt let me. I use IE 6.0.

Any ideas?

256354 2004-07-29 07:39:00 The actual data download speed may train up or down dynamically, you need to download a known file and compare the time taken.

40 kbs is around 4 or 5 kB/s, and thats quite good for dial-up anyway. A connect speed of 40 kbs is quite normal, perhaps your phone line simply does not change its characteristics much.

The connect speed is dependent on those characteristics, the data transfer is subject to both these and the server bandwidth.

The issue with the "little window" suggests its not a "window" perhaps but an icon warning you that a pop-up has been blocked.

The site you mention uses pop-ups to display the calculators.

Try enabling pop-ups and see if thats the case.
