| 256875 | 2004-07-30 10:21:00 | Can anyone throw some light on the "Connection Settings" in MSN Messenger. I've read their help files and they're way confusing. I'm on a PC running Windows 2000 Pro that's wirelessly networked to another PC also running Windows 2000 Pro, and that PC is connected to the net. [It's running ICS] I can't get MSN Messenger on my PC to connect. The MSN help files suggest that if I'm on a LAN I will need to use "I use a proxy server" under the connection settings. Problem is I don't know what settings or values to use there. Being on a LAN I am unable to accept incoming TCP connections, and I think this is the problem - but there doesn't seem to be any way to configure these instant messaging programs for this. |

Can Internet Explorer access the internet, at all? > Being on a LAN I am unable to accept incoming TCP > connections, and I think this is the problem ?:|, I would not think that would be the problem even if you are on a wirelessly networked & you are using ICS MSN messenger should be able to find that there is a internet connection Also do you get any error message when you try to sign in to ICQ/MSN messenger? |

| 256878 | 2004-07-30 11:03:00 | From the client PC I can access the internet via the host, I.E connects to most sites Ok but interestingly enough has difficulty connecting to Microsoft sites - eg won't connect to Hotmail or www.microsoft.com etc. If I try to log in to MSN Messenger or ICQ it tries for about 30 seconds to connect and then comes up and tells me it couldn't connect. The headaches I'm getting from trying different settings and rebooting etc etc are starting to outway the value of IMS. A string and two tin cans would be easier (although there would be a distance issue .. LOL) |
