| 257077 | 2004-08-01 04:25:00 | a 2 sec google search finds driver gineus which is a paid program and won't back up all the driver apps asfaik. have a look on your pc. some makers leave a folder with all the drivers in it. otherwise simply ID all the parts and download the drivers. to ID the parts use everest or aida and your eye (open the case and have a look!). |

By downloading either Belarc (www.belarc.com) or Everest Home (www.snapfiles.com) (used to be AIDA32) you can find out what all your devices are. I believe that this (http://www.driverguidetoolkit.com/) program can even back them up. Useful if using the same OS. |

As for driver apps?...as in programs?.....we all know programs have to be reinstalled so i don't quite know what your getting at there, you cant back installed programs up to cd. I again suggest he uses Driver Genius,he could have made a backup of all his drivers in less time then i took to write this post, whick in itself took far less time then finding and downloading even one driver, let alone a dozen. |

| 257080 | 2004-08-01 07:48:00 | >As for driver apps?...as in programs?..... a lot of drivers a various apps that come with them for adjusting settings etc. very few driver backup programs back those apps. i have tried driver backup aps before but it was a waste of time. its easier to just keep your full drivers on disk. also seeing as most people download newer drivers at one point or another they will have the driver exe on disk still. |

| 257081 | 2004-08-01 10:21:00 | hmmm.....For some reason i presumed you worked in a shop, maybe im mistaken. Anyhow,a couple observations i have made. 1.The average user never updates drivers. 2.If they have there is a 90 percent chance they deleted the exe a week later after stumbling across it and not knowing what it was,or why it would be in there Documents folder 3.Getting drivers for brand name comps is the most time consuming task possible, they use Motherboards that exsist outside the manufacters range, obscure modems and video chipsets, have mutiple models under the one name requiring the download of dozens of drivers or simply refuse to make the drivers available(compaq) requiring the sourceing of generic chipset drivers. If one is about to format a brand name comp and not use the provided restore cd then they would be extremly foolish not to use a driver back up program first, beyond foolish even. |
