| 256886 | 2004-07-31 06:45:00 | Hi Folks. F1, F1, F1. On XP PRO, with a faithful little Epson 440 printer. In the beginning, there was a backup that failed, stating that it could not read damaged sectors. Occurred several times. Under system cleanup, fixed file system errors and the backup worked. However, on the same day, apparently unconnected, an attempt to print met with "No printers installed". At Setting/Add Printer there was no indicaton of there every having been printers attached. Clicked on Add Printer and response was "Operation could not be completed". Inseted original Epson CD and again met the "Operation could not be completed." Physically the printer looks alive and well. Anyone ever had similar refusal to cooperate from a machine. Thanks | Scouse (83) | ||

| 256889 | 2004-07-31 08:14:00 | Hi johnboy. Thanks for prompt reply. However you "my fix was uninstall then reinstall that sorted it." threw me a little. My system shows no indication of ever having had a printer. A full system search fails to even find the word Epson. I can't find anythin to actually clean up. | Scouse (83) | ||

| 256891 | 2004-07-31 10:28:00 | Try a registry cleaner and if that doesn't work it may need a reinstall because something obviously got damage through the bad sectors. | mikebartnz (21) | ||
| 256892 | 2004-08-05 11:10:00 | Hi jonboy and mikeb.. Appreciate your input. The repeating failed sectors were the answer. Had a tech run the Maxtor test on the two-month old Maxtor 6Y080L0 and the response stated simply that the drive was failing. Replaced today at no cost. Fortunately there was enough of the failing drive to enable almost complete transfer of contents. Looks sweet now. | Scouse (83) | ||
