256900 2004-07-31 07:46:00 I have a friend who is a well known singer, who wants to send a demo DVD to prospective record companies, concert organisers etc. She wants to put videos of her singing, her CV, and just audio-CD recordings onto one disk.

What she wants to know, is whether it's possible to have a half-CD half-DVD disk, so half the disk is a DVD which will play in a DVD player, and play the video content, the other half is a mixed-mode CD with CD audio capable of playing in a home CD player, and a data section for a PDF or DOC version of her CV. I have seen something similar to this done on a commercially pressed CD before, but is it possible to do it at home on a domestic DVD burner?

256901 2004-07-31 08:37:00 The best you can do is make a mixed mode vcd, No guarantee that any particular player will accept it though.

And because the audio would have to be in wave format to play in a cd player and the video in mpg you won't exactly fit allot of content on the cd, although as its a showcase i suppose it won't matter.

I would imagine the "well known singer" would be better off going to a local company and getting a half pie professional job done for a few hundy.

Not that I’m trying to knock the skills of a home enthusiast, but it sounds like something to be used to start a career and presentation/image/first impressions are everything.

256902 2004-07-31 10:12:00 Thanks for the info metla,

She has had demo CDs recorded by a professional recording company, and video footage from live concerts professionally videotaped and edited.

She wanted to try and keep everything on one disk if possible, as in the past she's sent multiple disks, or a CD, a VHS cassette, and a hardcopy CV, and it's been a hassle. I suppose a audio/data CD plus a DVD would be another solution, so I could ask her about that too.

Just back to my original question - I have seen a commercially pressed multi-format DVD/CD - ie from the inside ring out to about half-way is CD, and from there to the edge of the disk is DVD. There was a clearly visible line separating the two sections (this was on a store-brought music CD). Is it possible to do something like this using a home DVD burner, using standard DVD media, or would it require special media to do that?

256903 2004-07-31 10:28:00 I think your requirements have fallen far outside the scope of home enthusiast, well outside my scope anyhow, are there any prosumers in the house at all? metla (154)

You sure about this? I would think the best option would be to create a "CD Extra" cd in Nero . . . convert the DVD to a lower mpeg 2 file and make it like an enhanced CD Single I guess .

I seriously doubt there is a "half CD / half DVD" out there . I think you must be thinking of a CD Single of some description?

Lo .

I'm not too sure how much video footage she has and wants to use, so I'll have to check that out. It might pay to just send both a CD and a DVD, and save the hassle.
