257251 2004-08-01 15:06:00 So,?:l
who would like to suggest why it is that Zone Alarm blocks all ads and replaces them with blank boxes - except for PC Worlds?:D
Apteryx (294)
257252 2004-08-01 15:35:00 Well, it appears Zone Alarm is smarter than we thought (or PC World is !)

257253 2004-08-02 05:01:00 It's conspiracy. I'm telling you.

Next thing you know there'll be a big X where the moon used to be....

257254 2004-08-02 05:08:00 What PC World advertisements?

There is a banner at the top of a PressF1 page which gets you to the on-line magazine. That has subcription etc "advertisements" as part of its pages. The only way to stop those is to not get the pages. ;-)

Real "advertisements" on PressF1 have calls to some organisation like doubleclick.com, which sends the actual advertising material to you. That's identifiable as "not PressF1 stuff". That's the stuff that ad-blockers can stop.

They have recently added something from acvsrv.mediaonenetwork.net/client/ but cant really see what it is. You see it happening once the page is loaded you will see that IE access bar goes again twice. I just blocked these because I don't like sneaky stuff happening in the background.

257256 2004-08-02 06:10:00 This is how i view pressf1,thanks to The Proximitron.

And with a little tweak i can remove the red section at the top,the background, fonts, formatting tables.......everything....not much point in that though.

257258 2004-08-02 08:00:00 Well I don't use ad blocking but I use POPUP and POPUNDER blocking.

Have you yet managed to stop adverts on your TV?
You can do this by buying paid TV like Sky. You can rent movies by getting a rental from a Video outlet.

Get yourself a little switch in your brain possibly.
The PCWorld site can get around all sorts of things. Just don't read the adverts. This works for me.

If you want a really intrusive advert you can find one where I go to a certain site and I get the Media Player in a small window playing across what I want to read. Now I have two options. 1: Don't go to the site or 2: Close the advert and carry on reading.

If you want to use this site for help or to give help then do so.

Banner advert across the top and adverts down the right hand side.
Not too intrusive for me as I only read the important stuff. The important stuff for me is the stuff in the middle otherwise how would I read this post you made?

Personally I see no reason why various sites can't have adverts. Other than that you can pay for the help on other sites.

I don't use ZoneAlarm. Maybe you should think about getting another O/s like Linux or another browser or other software or hardware.

Some people will push you a graphic card that will leave you with $700 - $1000 less in your pocket. Other people will say use other firewalls which may or not may cost.

The main word I see on PressF1 is the word FREE!!!!!
Free antivirus. Free firewall. Free games. Free operating systems. Free TXT editing. Free hardware. Free software. Download this and that. Oh goodness gracious I seem to have some spyware so therefore I need to download some more programs to get rid of these program parts *I* downloaded.

Just go get something FREE. If you do then don't moan.
This forum is free other than paying up for your connection to your ISP is it not. That of course will be the other one. Moans about Paradise. Moans about Xtra. Moans about anything.... It just keeps going on.

Maybe I should start an OT thread about Politicians, Sex, Religion, etc.

Maybe we could have one about the English language as spoke in NZ?

Indeed. :p

I just noticed Firefox's adblock blugin doesn't work on it anymore. They must've updated the ad code with something nasty. Damned advertisers, plague of all society.

OK. Fine. Back to the TV after removing the hammer from the shed. :-)

Adverts are a fact of life though are they not?
Pick up a newspaper, magazine, newsletter or any paper publication. A magazine like PCWorld has adverts. A magazine like PCWorld has CONTENT as well does it not?

We don't buy a newspaper, magazine, newsletter etc for the adverts do we?
We buy for the content.

Or we don't as the case may be. :-)

In the case of PressF1 we have already bought an internet connection otherwise we would not be here.

So PressF1 does not cost you any more than you already pay.
Various places and various ISPs. If you have the Internet via whatever ISP you have a Free PressF1 do you not?

Why complain?

Obligatory statement.... I don't work for them!!
