| 257181 | 2004-08-01 07:02:00 | Hey, My dad has a Compaq Presario 4506, about P200MX with 32Mb ram (upgraded) and 2gb hard drive -i think. Today, it does not boot. When the power goes on, everything fires up. The red compaq logo/writing is displayed, then it sits there. I don't even see the display of the Bio, CPU, Ram, Harddrive information that you would normally see upon boot up. Just if your wondering, the monitor works 100% fine as I have tested it on my machine. CD-Rom doesn't work; neither does floppy, hence, no bootdisk allowed :(. Has it got a virus? Has it just died? It is old though, since... late 90s. Any help to get it going again would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, |

Thanks for that, but unfortunately, as I said, CD-Rom doesnt come out! The lights flash and everything, it just wont come out! The floppy is just, completely 'not doin a thing' - not even flashing! Kiki, you suggest the battery being flat, but it can always display the compaq logo, how does it do that...? Argh! The joy of brand-name PCs.... |

Remind me not to skim read. :P Can you access the BIOS configuration at all? Or not even that? It's probably some busted piece of hardware stalling things. Possibly the hard drive... |

| 257187 | 2004-08-01 11:44:00 | even if there is no "press f10" shown, I think you can still access the BIOS using the F10 key when you see the compaq splash screen HTH |

It seems to me that a virus has got through. Nope! Cant see a thing about BIO Thanks for your efforts, any more clues? |

| 257190 | 2004-08-02 04:33:00 | When the Compaq logo is displayed, there should be a cursor at the top right-hand corner of the screen. That's when to press F10 for the BIOS setup. They don't have a message to say that, you're supposed to know it. :D | Graham L (2) | ||
