Electricity hasn't quite made is south of the Bombay's yet, however there may be openings in steam engine drop-in centres.

Seriously though there are a number of helpdesks in Wellington, ComputerLand operate quite a large one, I work for an ISP in Wellington and I know there are a few others around. There are also a couple in Paraparaumu that I know of.

They are all over the place.

Helpdesk jobs are perhaps the easiest to look for (tho many might disagree with me, but we are talking about entry level Helpdesk).

Helpdesk staff tend to treat the job as a stepping stone. Most wouldn't stay longer than 3 years at one company before their experience allow them to apply for higher paid job.

I would recommend looking at IT job websites. Some companies might take on an inexperienced staff but they won't pay very high.

I agree. But there's a lot of competition, so it'd pay to be diligent and proactive in the search - make approaches to companies and follow up the approach monthly.

Doesn't pay a lot, but entry level helpdesk pays higher than the national average wage (as far as I know), expect 30k - 36k which isn't too bad for first full time job. Also frequently is 2 - 4 weeks induction training at near full pay - easy life!

Remember too, that a lot of these kind of jobs are advertised via employment vultures - um err agencies. The agents are usually totally pathetic when it comes to the most basic IT knowledge - to them an ability to format in Word or Excel is the sum total of IT prerequisites needed to be forwarded to a potential employer. So if you go through an agency, practice your MS Office skills, keep in mind the basics of TCP/IP and blind them with IT jargon, however little your knowledge may be!
