257327 2004-08-02 11:17:00 Since when is Partition Magic an illegal WAREZ program?
As I understand it you can buy it if you want to.

It is not free but will run under Win98 and will shift data where some free ones will not.

If all that needs to be done is to delete a partition then FDISK will work.
Just delete non dos partition assuming there is no data there.

There is a possibility that this is a hidden partition containg recovery data that the person wants to delete though. For that reason until I find out more I would hesitate to have the partition deleted in the first place.

As it ain't my computer then they can do what they want though.

Free tools will work. Paid tools will work.

In the final analysis though, any tool will work only if you know how to use it.

B4 you laugh.... I have seen someone HAMMERING a SCREW into TIMBER.

Once I used a crowbar as a hammer. This was because I did not have a hammer available at the time I really wanted one.

257328 2004-08-02 11:36:00 the demo ver of PM dosn't do anything (unless they have changed in the last ver). the only way PM would be any good is to pay for it, get a magizine ver (thx peter) or use crackz/warez. it is very rare to find someone who suggests paying for it, in fact you'll poberly find PM being suggested as a FREE program!

<oops....been there done that....arghhhhh> lol

257329 2004-08-02 12:25:00 I never thought Partition Magic was a free program ever.

I must admit that one time I used it ( the same version as I have now ) I finished up with a scrambled hard drive.

Just wanting to change a partition size but must have had too much rum & coke that night.

It did not worry me greatly as I also use Norton Ghost and have two Seagate drives of the same size. I did the ghost clone before I used PM

Changed the slave to master and back to square one. Used PM a night or two later and had no problems. Haven't had any since either I might add.

You might not have, but Tweak'e is simply stating that some people pass it off as thou it were.

That is possible. I might add though, that nowhere in this forum that I can see, was it actually said that Partition Magic was FREE. Just references to get and use PM.

So you get a version of Windows or MSDos or PCDos. Can you say that FDisk is FREE? No.... Just a part of what you have already paid for.

I know ( having bought heaps of Motherboards ) that versions of Drive Image, PC Cillin, Ghost and others will come free with the motherboard drivers as a bundled deal. Usually these versions may be one or two or even three versions behing the latest you can buy.

For example the last Soltek motherboard I bought came with PC-cillin 2002, Virtual Drive ( no idea what version ), Partition Magic 6.0SE and Drive Image 4.0

It says on the manual which came on the extra CD in brackets "For bundle only. Not for resale."

I still have the CD here and the extra manual. Never been installed on my or any other system.

Makes me wonder why some motherboards can be expensive though.

If I was short of coasters or bird scarers I could use the CD for that though.

257332 2004-08-03 01:13:00 sorry elephant i wasn't meaning any person in particular and yes there has been plenty of people who have mentioned that PM was free (tho the posts may have been deleted for obvious reasons) and others imply that it is. theres only been a handfull of kind souls who have ever mentioned that it costs. i couldn't really give a toss what people use on their pc's but suggesting illegal software on a newbie forum is not really on. tweak'e (174)
257333 2004-08-03 05:50:00 Partition Magic is recommended because it is worth every cent you pay for it. This makes the cost a negligible factor and a quick 2 second Google search will find that you will have to pay for it anyway. That's implied. kiki (762)
257334 2004-08-03 09:38:00 This thread wasn't started to debate the pro & cons of Partition Magic. I was only endorsing my approval of a previous post. However since watching more posts on the subject I feel compelled to reply. I stand by my previous statement, Partition Magic is the best money I ever spent on software. When I started on computers, about 4 years ago it did not take long to realize the benifits of partitioning the hard drive and at the time I did not have a clue as to go about doing that, so I took the easy way out and bought the software to do the job and I am glad I did. I have used this program so many times I have lost count, If my time was worth $2.00/hr I would be well in the black. If there is a better program than Partition Magic point me to it and I will buy it. i-gordon (962)

257336 2004-08-03 09:48:00 There is no way you need to apologise to me. I say what I think and I just try to get it right.

You are not wrong in my opinion. Some people here just say use "PM" and don't even mention you have to buy it. I use a paid copy as from time to time I would like to resize a partition without losing data. It's worth the money for me.
