| 257218 | 2004-08-02 11:25:00 | M/B ASUS P4S8X-X, P4 2.4, 768mb RAM, TRIOS 2 Hard Disk Selector, Seagate Primary Drive, ST Lab PCI ATA 133 IDE Card, Western Digital WD1600BB slave drive through the IDE card, Win XP Pro SP1 + fully updated. I put the WD drive in the primary position & booted from floppy, set up the drive, partitioned & formatted it. Refit it to the IDE card cable as the master drive & refitted the original C drive, rebooted. Run the BIOS & set up the drives, the WD drive is not listed, it lists it as a SCSI device. Booted windows & it's all there. Tried to transfer a 600meg file, got half way through & it locked up again. It's a time thing, it just locks up after a set period in time ie. 5 seconds. During the setup for the WD drive it mentioned that the IDE card may have to have the jumpers set. There are 4 pins in a square on the card & no information in the supplied installation leaflet. The ST Lab website is as much use as a poke in the eye with a stick. Any other suggestions please. Phil |

| 257221 | 2004-08-02 12:22:00 | Any thing in particular listed in the Computer Managment Events log, is diskperf enabled in Performance Logs? They may give a pointer as to what sort of issue it is. Cheers Murray P |

| 257222 | 2004-08-03 05:11:00 | I think I'd be inclined to use a Linux dual boot. :D I've had no real problems in 10 years of using LILO. I've got one machine using Grub. The problem I've got with that at the moment was my doing, and it is recoverable :D. |

| 257223 | 2004-08-05 11:11:00 | I can't see if Diskperf is working or not . I went to Bo's Windows Tips & got the info of how to start it there . It now copies once . I copied a 650meg file into the backup drive ok . I then tried it again & the system locked straight away . I've also found messenger logs in automatically every other time i boot up & also my bookmarks have icons every other time (Firefox) The Com+ service was on manual, now auto . UM UM |
