Well, can't see a cursor. I tried the F10, then in the bottom left corner it displayed : Entering Setup... Then goes into a black screen about 10 seconds later and stays there.

Virus destroyed motherboard? The CD-ROm emergency eject button aren't working either.

257192 2004-08-02 04:57:00 Try unplugging the CD drive data and power cables. Are any lights showing on the front panel? Are the fans running? Graham L (2)
257193 2004-08-02 05:39:00 It looks like you are getting part way there with F10, have you tried resetting the BIOS by removing the battery for a few minutes and switching the nearby jumper? (change the jumper from pin positions 2&3 to 1&2 and back again - or from 1&2 to 2&3 and back again, can't remember off the top of my head) Then try F10 again. andrew93 (249)
257194 2004-08-02 06:05:00 I've not had any experience dealing with a Compaq like this. It's supposedly a mini-Multimedia box. Hence, you have to take the so-many layers of the case out before you reach the centre. The area is so small, I can't fit my hands through.

Hence, I haven't opened it. It took me hours! to add one stick of memory last time!

Any alternatives? Cheers,

257195 2004-08-02 06:18:00 Hi Sy, not sure what you mean by "mini-mutlimedia" but it sounds like the small form factor desktop (someone correct me if I am wrong) where the RAM is located underneath the CD/HDD/FDD housing - once you remove the case, does the whole CD-ROM/HDD/FDD housing flip forward through 90 degrees so that you can access the motherboard underneath? andrew93 (249)

An axe?

Mouth to disk resuscitation?

If you don't get inside you'll probably never fix it.

Bite the bullet and go for it SY.

257197 2004-08-02 06:21:00 indeed,SFF cases are quite easy to work on,allthough some are counterlevered together,it may pay to see if there are instuctions on the manufacters website for dismantling them, ive pulled to bits many many of them and still sometiimes have to have a quick check if i can't see how they are latched together.

They don't like brute force.

257198 2004-08-02 06:30:00 Well, update: I have finally managed to get into the Phenix Bio, not for long before it froze though.

Looks like I'll have to wait a while (when I have time) to smash through it. Well, the memory was quite nicely visible, however, there were cables running everywhere. If only they made it longer, we might have been able to put the stuff in without takin everycable out to make way.

257199 2004-08-02 06:48:00 If the PC froze is the RAM stuffed, seated incorrectly or incompatible? (Compaq can be fussy with their RAM) I suppose we should have asked this earlier - what has changed since it did work? andrew93 (249)

Absolutely nothing!
