257431 2004-08-02 03:53:00 Hi
I have a number of old sepia photos that I have so far removed the creases etc but would love to do something about the clarity.
I was reading a book called Photoshop CS (now wondering what the CS is?) that talks about
Image > Adjustments > Shadow/Highlight but my version doesn't have the shadow/highlight option to do it.
Would appreciate any help with this mission.
cheers as always rock :)

257432 2004-08-02 05:23:00 Hi rockwood,

Adobe Photoshop CS is the latest version of Adobe's flagship image editing product Photoshop. Photoshop is an industry-standard high-end image editing program, and is widely used by professionals and home users alike. The CS stands for "Creative Suite", part of a package of Adobe products including Photoshop, Pagemaker, Indesign, and many others. The version number is actually 8.0.

As far as clarity, There should be a similar function availible in previous versions - which version do you have? If you don't, you can download a 30-day fully-working trial version of Photoshop CS for PC and Mac from the Adobe website - be warned though that it is quite large. The program is quite expensive to buy too.

257433 2004-08-02 08:21:00 Don't wish to hijack this thread but it is related.
We downloaded Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 trial, to have a look at it.
It unzipped with a desktop Icon with the name "pse2trial.exe". hover we cannot open it. Any ideas??? PJ

257434 2004-08-02 08:30:00 Try a trial of PaintShopPro.

One click photo enhance.

Buy it if it works for you.

Other than that use photoshop and get the manual and learn.

I have photoshop 7 here but mostly I use PaintShop Pro 8. For me it works and is cheaper.

257435 2004-08-02 08:37:00 Have a play with the filters, unsharp mask, desreen, etc. Save the original scanned image as a PSD file beforehand (File menu > Save As) to avoid degradation by editing JPEG files.

PJ, have you tried to start it from Start > Programs > ? If that works ok or by double clicking on the exe file in C:\Program File\Adobe\Photoshop Elements (or whatever the path is) then right click the shortcut and hit the Change Target button and browse to the PSE exe file.

257437 2004-08-02 09:35:00 Murray P..Diddn't work. It is not in program files. Anyway it doesn't matter. We have Paint Shop Pro 5, courtesy of a friend, will stay with that . Was just for comparison really. Thanks. PJ Poppa John (284)
257438 2004-08-02 09:37:00 Have a look at this (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) thread to see the results of someone who did a great job in photo re-touching! Greg S (201)

257440 2004-08-03 00:31:00 Hi again
What a super lot of replies for this old Grandma...I'm going to beat this no matter what!!!
I am playing around with collaging these photos also but after I save as PSD twice even with an extra digit after the PSD e.g. 5 or 6 (for me)
...when I open them they come up with the question
Embedded Profile Mismatch
....does not match current RGB work. space
it chooses for me Discard the embedded profile >OK then I can work on it.
what are they talking about?
by the way yes I have bought expensive 'how to' books but I think its also by doing and asking.
cheers rock :)
