258059 2004-08-04 07:39:00 Hi guys,
I have this assignment in my university account and I would like to transfer it home to work on but I have one problem it will not fit on floppy disk (too large).

Is there any methods of transfering it home besides using the internet or cd-writer, dvd-writer or zip disk?

A friend told me to get this www.mpio.com
or this www.mpio.com

I dont know if it will need me to install a driver etc, since if i need to install it, i dont think i have the right or permissions to install in university.

On the webpage the accessories listed includes a CD, does that mean it does require installation of some sort before I can use it?

thx alot

258060 2004-08-04 07:43:00 How big is it? If it is slightly bigger than a floppy capacity, can you compress it using something like Winzip?

If not, you can span it across several disks using Winzip also.

258063 2004-08-04 08:18:00 If you just want to transport files, then a USB pen/drive are great and getting more economical. Works straight off in 2000 and XP , but requires drivers installed with win98.

Have a look around on trademe here (www.trademe.co.nz)

wow, great thanks just what i needed to hear

Computers don't have winzip so can't compress or split file and don't have the right to install software. I got dialup so it will take too long for me to download (file size about 20mb) and also I will be updating the file regularly so it would be time consuming.

Thanks alot

258065 2004-08-04 09:48:00 Pen drives are really great - one little problem that tends to come up on some networks though - they install them selves using one of the same drives as the network and are not visible or usable until you go into Disk Management and give it a new (free) drive letter. Problem is that you probably do not have the rights to do this on a networked PC. JohnD (509)
258066 2004-08-04 10:21:00 Hi there

If you have a digital camera drag the file to it and take the camera home, plug it in and voila! There is your assignment. The size limit is the available space on your camera card.

Cheers

258067 2004-08-04 10:30:00 Call yourself a student! I would have thought you would have just picked up the PC and taken it home. ]:) :p

Floppy disk = 1.44MB, your file = 20MB. Zipping isnt going to help as I doubt it will compress 20:1. Unfortunately you will have to invest in some removable storage device.

Just pop "file splitter" in to google. I've used a simple one for years. Chops the file down to floppy bite sizes which can be simply reassembled.
