2004-08-03 02:05:00 | Hi If any of you have embedded part of an Excel spreadsheet and are using it to do calculations - eg for personal budgets etc, rather than downloading another program for that purpose, I'd be interested in any advice about what to do and what not to do. It seems I need to have Excel on my computer, [I do have it as part of Office97] but haven't installed it. Have looked at sites on the net for a mini Excel style program, but AZZ seem to mention Excel specifically. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks for your time, regards Marg.

2004-08-03 08:38:00 | Hi Marg I am slowly understanding what you mean. Mrs Misty and I took a small spreadsheet from Excel and put it into a card but whilst it migrated ok it did not behave like a spreadsheet in that you could update it by using the formulas already there. Mrs Misty assures me that you can do so in Word. In the list of "main features it mentions "embedded" and refers to "Objects (pictures, sounds, other things) can be embedded or linked in the cards". To me that does not seem to include Excel spreadsheets - but then I am very much a beginner in these things. I will follow what others have to say with keen interest. If you get stuck you can of course write to Antanas Zdramys at >author@azzcardfile.biz> Misty PS Good luck :)

2004-08-03 09:05:00 | Thanks Mr and Mrs Misty for going the extra mile and actually trying it out on youy own computer. :-) I thought by doublclicking the exel example AZZ used you could change the figures. May have to install Excel afterall. I copied [+ edited] the following during a search of previous posts: >Make a table in Word then in the Sum cell go to Table|Formula and it should have automatically suggested a formula to add up your column, eg =SUM(ABOVE). >When the numbers change Right Click and choose Update Field. >Saves messing around with importing Excel spreadsheets. So there is obviously something in Word that you can do. But thanks for replying, and sorry if my original post was confusing. Am doing a casual course in Excel at the moment, but the format of AZZ, while really good, doesn't have the full capability of Word - but v. close. Regards, Marg.

2004-08-03 09:11:00 | Hi, I have ver 3.1c & it works fine. If you select Edit|Insert Object from the menu you can select Microsoft Excel Worksheet (or a chart) and choose to either create it from New or as a link to an existing file. Using the New option as an example, when you click OK you are taken to an Excel sheet where you enter data like normal. When you close the Excel workbook, you are returned to AZZ and the data you entered is displayed like an embedded object and you cant edit directly within AZZ. To edit, double click the object and Excel is opened where you can edit the data. Yes, you will need to install Excel to use this feature.

2004-08-03 09:14:00 | Hi Marg, I have Excel and was able to paste (embed) a part of a spreadsheet into Cardfile but for editing it jumps back into Excel. It will not do any calculations in Cardfile by itself so you need to install Excel if you wish to do calculations.

2004-08-03 09:17:00 | LOL, I ought to have refreshed my tab before posting. :p Cardfile was created with the intention of being a "light" and fast program to use rather than be bogged down with extra features that other programs, like Word, already had, so if you find Word to be more useful to you in this instance, you would be better to use that instead of Cardfile. :-)

2004-08-03 09:31:00 | Thanks Parry and Susan B Can't get over how this program is so versatile. There is a common calculation I would like to do and embed in some of my Astrology cards. Wish I had got on to this sooner, as most of my notes done over the last couple of years are all hardcopy so can't cut and paste. My arms are aching from all the typing and I think I'll instal AZZ on a friend's computer and pay her to write up cards with all the info I need, and then copy the AZZ files to my computer. Will test a small file first in case the whole idea goes bellyup like a lot of my ideas. :-( But thanks alot for helping out, :-) Regards Marg.
