03.08.2004
By PAUL BRISLEN

Telecom plans further consolidation of its JetStream line-up with the JetStream games realm next on the chopping block.

That's why we have Work connections after-hours, or currently flat-rate 256kbps JetStream Surf plans ;-)

257736 2004-08-03 02:19:00 yes but even on 256k 1gb takes quite a while to download lagbort (5041)
257737 2004-08-03 02:20:00 hmmm......Thats ruined my day,seems my recent purchase of 1942 was a waste of time.

Looks like i shall once again start looking for a Telescum alternative,i shall see if i can get away from using any of there services,I wonder if they ever consider that pack raping there customers is counter-productive.

257738 2004-08-03 03:44:00 Unlikely, Telecom still have too much control. If they can get away charging more and offering less and still keep the lion's share of the market why would they change? Besides Telecom is still having far too much fun shafting everyone, precisely why I went with Telstra. Now if only Telstra would invest a bit more money and make their network a bit larger so the rest of the country can switch, then we may see some changes. Sb0h (3744)
257739 2004-08-03 05:55:00 This has got to be the worst news ever for people on the Gb rated plans (not unlimited). It's also bad for the people with the "unlimited plans", they'll be over their cap in no time and will be cut down to 64kb/s which is probably terrible for gaming.

I think all the Jetstream gamer's in the country will be on a riot over this.

257741 2004-08-03 06:12:00 Online gaming doesn't use that much data - my son and I am online gaming quite a bit and have never exceeded 10 gigs - 6 was the most any month and that included a few mp3s and mpegs that month. T

he JSG Realm pings weren't any better than normal 256k pings anyway, it's latency, not bandwidth that matters (as it happens my latency has turned to custard but that's another story).

What I will miss is the ability to download game mods, patches, drivers, videos and so on from the JSG FTP at full speed.

257742 2004-08-03 06:25:00 Jester,

The JSG realm used to be really really good. This is from a couple of years ago. Recently it has turn to custard.

Playing Battlefield 1942 can chew up 30MB per hour. And like you say - the JSG FTP server is a marvelous source for downloading demo games, patches, Linix distro, movies etc at full ADSL speed.
