| 257666 | 2004-08-04 06:00:00 | The Real (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) risk in playing with psu's and CRTs. The most dangerous thing of all is the shock that doesn't kill you, but starts your heart beating in an abnormal rhythm. It doesn't feel too bad and you just get on with your work. You feel fine for about an hour, then start to feel crook with flu-like symptoms, cold & sweaty, nauseous, a dose of the skitters, fatigued etc. and it is all downhill from there. If left untreated, your heart rhythm can gradually worsen (because of the strain of ineffective pumping) until it finally fibrillates (usually after you have gone to bed and dropped off to sleep) and you are found dead to the world (literally) next morning. This happens! This for real, and I'm speaking from personal experience. I received such a shock about 25 years ago and was on my way home (for aforesaid reasons) when I felt so bad I pulled in to the first doctor's surgery I came to. All it took was a couple of pills and an hour waiting in the surgery to put me right, but if I had driven on I probably wouldn't have survived. If pills don't do it, sometimes shock treatment from a defibrillator is the only means to restore the correct rhythm. Never mess with electricity unless you know what you are doing and are fully aware of the risks. Cheers Billy 8-{) |
