2004-08-03 06:39:00 | even if they ditch the realm, hopefully they will 1. Keep the ftp servers , 2. Keep the Xtra Games server. | ilikelinux (1418) | |
2004-08-03 06:44:00 | Oh no!!!!!!!!! This is bad! I feel a multi-hour download spree coming on....

2004-08-03 06:44:00 | I presume this includes the ftp servers?:_| There goes my Gentoo mirror! Having Gentoo mirrored on the ftp jetstreamgames server was so handy. When you are building/compiling from a stage 1 install, you download all your source for your system and then compile it. It was great being able to grab large chucks of source code (~200 MB at a time) at speeds of 700 KB/s - meant that your total build time was substantially reduced. And, having a selection of recent Linux ISO's available ... and Fedora Core 1 & 2 Dag rpm's .... <sob> You can tell losing the gaming realm server itself does not cause me grief :p I wonder how many people who stayed with Jetstream just for the full speed servers will now move onto other modes/options of broadband?

I was just thinking that!, I guess what will happen a day before Telecom cans Jetstream games, every one will be downloading as much as they can & the server will not cope & go down! I would LOL if that does happen |

2004-08-04 05:32:00 | In case you are not up to date with news... Hot off the NZ Herald web press (www.nzherald.co.nz) Online game players are up in arms over Xtra's decision to axe the JetStream games realm but marketing manager Chris Thompson says there's one easy way to change his mind: use the service.

2004-08-04 07:50:00 | Well I don't use it for gaming but access to the linux mirrors is damn handy, and I really don't believe that user numbers are falling off, well thats about all i have to say Keep the gaming realm up it helps keep gamers off the street.

2004-08-04 09:33:00 | Thompson is right the service is not used very much, I could not believe after getting jetstream how few people were using the games servers even the paradise servers are not used enough, and considering it's a free service with no traffic charges, seems crazy to me, at times my kidds could not find anyone to play against. The FTP server on the other hand is a great thing to have, being able to download at full speed is a good when you are only on 256, I hope we don't lose that!
