258283 2004-08-05 01:51:00 Hi

My AMD XP 2800 always seems to be running at around 65 Degrees when i use and ar around 50 when idle, Always my RADEON 9200 128 Meg graphics card can get up to 50 Degrees when I am playing a game. I was wondering if this is normal.

Thanks

258284 2004-08-05 10:57:00 Not entirely unusual, but not particularly desirable either. There is a fairly substantial industry dealing (to/with) just this very subject. Opinions are more variable than the temperatures :) The more I look into this, the confuseder I are became.

258285 2004-08-05 10:59:00 65 under heavy load?

Sounds good to me,Don't worry about it and enjoy it.

258286 2004-08-05 12:56:00 Well my athlon xp 2600 processor runs hot too...I recently receive 123 degrees on it (around 30 when idle), and the fan runs at 4821 rpm. The remedy I use is to power down the system...and later on everything is back to normal. I think it happened because I was playing the Painkiller game for a long time.... FeuerBrennt (5971)
258287 2004-08-05 13:40:00 65 C sounds pretty warm. My Athlon 2600+ Barton @ 2.3Ghz only hits 52 C under load and idles at 46C depending on room temperature. (That's overclocked 400Mhz). I'm only using a $50 cooler (www.ascent.co.nz) with it as well.

The other comp we have, with a Athlon 2800+ only hits 50 C under load and idles at about 43 C.

Most motherboards read the temperature 10C higher than actual as a safety feature.

What are you measuring the temperatures with?

123 deg :O it should be starting to get a bit unstable around 80-95 and be cooking nicely at 123 if the computer hasn't BSOD'ed or shut down via hardware . What's your motherboard and what sort of cooler is it .

If the temperature is remotely accurate (it looks way out, from here!), I would suspect a miss-seated heat sink or lack of thermal compound and a tough a nails CPU ;)

258289 2004-08-05 21:37:00 The temp of 65 is from my motherboard , yet it on reads around 40 on the fan controller but that is on the outside of the CPU so thats why it is much cooler. I read somewhere that the melt down temp of most CPU's is around 80 Degrees so if it goes over that i would be worried. ApeNz (4220)
258290 2004-08-05 21:37:00 Well the reading now is 4821 for the fan rpm, mobo is 35 deg, cpu at 98, power/aux at 44....So I don't know what could be the problem. Maybe there is something wrong the temp sensors in my pc cos programs just runs smoothly as usual....especially games....runs smooth as usual.... FeuerBrennt (5971)
258291 2004-08-05 21:40:00 Thats the same with Me , I run GTA III good as , and then my computer starts beeping because its getting to hot but i cant see any problems , Maybe they just do it to get you worried and buy heaps of fans ApeNz (4220)
258292 2004-08-05 21:51:00 I wouldnt worry about your temps, temp reading on Athlon are notoriously inaccurate. Gigabyte motherboard are known to be out but by 10 degrees. It all depends on the way the motherboard takes the temp reading, the majority use a small thermal probe under the chip, which isnt exactly accurate. Play Battlefield or DOOM3 for an hour and if the system is stable then youve got nothing to worry about.

>I recently receive 123 degrees on it
Dammmmm dude you could have a BBQ on that thing, with temps like that you should see smoke coming out the back of your PC. This is just another example of Athlon temps being crazily inaccurate.

If you want to be really careful most motherboards have an option in the BIOS to turn the PC off once the CPU reaches a certain temp.

Dont touch thermaltake HSF there absolute crap, they claim to be silent but if their nothing like it. Zalman make some of the best HSF and as long as your not overclocking they can be very affordable.
