258445 2004-08-06 11:43:00 I checked out the new orcon plans:

An arm, a leg and my first born. Absolutely overpriced !!!!

shouldn't it be around $25.00 per month for the flat rate surf?
like 256k download but only 128k upload ..
Buying gold would be cheaper?

This is a step backwards for broadband in NZ... if they really wanted people to shift to them as their provider they could at least make it tempting .. not just matching the competitors ..
I heard someone say more competition will bring prices down well here is a good chance for ORCON to prove just that to us, the payers.

Yes it is - it's $20 cheaper and not throttled to 64kbs at 10 gig.

Current 10gig Jetsurf is $59.90 to Telecom and $9.95 to Orcon

Yes, your right I forgot, Orcon's plan is unlimited traffic and a static
IP address, which Xtra charge $30 a month xtra for. :( X-(

258448 2004-08-08 06:17:00 $49.95 is what I pay Xtra for 3 gig.
If you need more, which I do not, you would have to sign up with Orcon or pay more to Xtra/Telecom.
They tell me that the latency problem is confined to certain areas. When I had this problem I took my computer & Router to a friend's house & had no problems.

Bollocks. LLU isn't going to happen, build a bridge, get over it.

This is part of the upcoming release of bit-stream plans - supposed wholesale broadband from Telecom.

258450 2004-08-08 07:18:00 I think there is alot of confusion out there with the latest Telecom-Orcon wholesale deal. I will try to sum up as best as possible. Feel free to correct me or add details.

Before

Telecom Jetstream Jetsurf, etc.
Telecom Charges + ISP Charges
e.g. JetSurf Unlimited $59.95 to Telecom, $~10 to ISP=$69.95 total
Buy your own ADSL Modem/Router

Woosh Wireless
Pay full to Woosh
e.g. Woosh Unlimited $55 total
Buy Woosh Wireless modem $199

Sorry I am not too sure about cable, somebody add here?

After

Telecom Jetstream Jetsurf, etc.
Telecom Charges + ISP Charges
e.g. JetSurf Unlimited $59.95 to Telecom, $~10 to ISP=$69.95 total
JetSurf 3GB $39.95 to Telecom, $~10 to ISP= $49.95 total
Buy your own ADSL Modem/Router

Orcon (Telecom) Jetstream Jetsurf, etc.
Telecom Charges + ISP Charges all paid to Orcon, who is a reseller and agent providing service, charging and collecting on Telecom's behalf. Paying Telecom % of price [Telecom's wholesale price to them]. Cheaper rates, as Telecom now only provides the lines, ("rented" by Orcon) and does not set prices
e.g. JetSurf Unlimited $49.95 All to Orcon
Buy your own ADSL Modem/Router

+ Pre-existing service, such as Woosh, Telstar Cable, etc.

Ditto.

The sooner the country will let it go, the sooner another solution will arrive.

Heck, If I were Telecom I would let you touch my stuff without paying a fortune first either!

258452 2004-08-08 07:22:00 I have a solution: Whoever has excessive money could buy out the Telecom shares, then vote for unbundling :D Then somehow or another, sell them at own discretion :D

I could always help with an extra $2.50 ;-)
