2004-08-05 02:50:00 | Exactly! AFAIK Windows XP Professional retails between $7-800, so there's no way that part of the system is legit, and if that part of the system isnt legit then it makes you wonder about the legitimacy of the rest of it :p

2004-08-05 03:24:00 | Retail - Ascent sell it here: www.ascent.co.nz For $699 OEM (With the purchase of a new PC) is $297 Now IIRC he said the LCD was worth $500 That's $800, so without that you're left with a system going for around $1000. Now you _may_ be able to get close to it.... Might just pay to post and ask how legit the copy of WinXP is, and/or if it comes with a Product Key

2004-08-05 03:53:00 | This guy won't be paying retail - you can get XP Pro for far cheaper than $297 (and metla should know) - ignore the printer cos they are given away with other stuff you buy, plus with the way tax works (and I figure metla knows this too) you can sell something for cash for up to 30% less than it cost you and you are still making money. I think you guys are barking up the wrong tree on this one - the issue isn't the XP Pro, it's the low quality LCD (probably ex-demo) & the "cashie" .... but that's just my opinion. | andrew93 (249) | |
2004-08-05 04:13:00 | Andrew: You reakon its Legit then? Totally??

2004-08-05 04:19:00 | :D Don't know for sure Chill but it could be - although I still wouldn't buy it given it sounds like a bitsa, who knows what spec DDR RAM has been used or how good any of the other componentry is. This may be a *new* PC but the internals might be 2nd hand. IMHO it could be done at that price with legit s/ware but I seriously doubt if the income is being declared.

2004-08-05 04:26:00 | Your thinking how do I know? I see guys at the auctions and I know what they pay for 2nd hand PC's and printers, I also know their TradeMe ID and I often see them selling stuff for less than what they paid - I'm like WTF?!?!?, how do they do it?!?!?!? - until the tax penny dropped (Jules : "It's what alcoholics refer to as a moment of clarity") | andrew93 (249) | |
2004-08-05 04:49:00 | You'd have to claiming back/fiddling GST?? to sell under cost. IRD should eventually have a moment of clarity even if they aren't alcoholics. | PaulD (232) | |
2004-08-05 04:50:00 | yeah - it all catches up with them eventually plus I know for a fact that the IRD regularly take a copy of the TradeMe database. | andrew93 (249) | |
