2004-08-05 09:56:00 heving an argument on trademe forums. Guy is trying to steal sky digital signal in mpeg 2 format to burn to dvd. Im not sure whether he wants to sell the discs. Whats your opinion on this topic? my status is that its pretty crap, stealing someones intellectual property. Tux (606)
2004-08-05 10:00:00 I'm doing exactly that at the moment. It's like using a video recorder, except I'm using a TV capture card to record All Black games.

How is it intellectual property? Plenty of people use video recorders to record stuff of Sky... there's even that guy who has modded a Tivo box to record Sky...

2004-08-05 10:04:00 you have the rights to watch it and record it for time lapse recording only. It is soemthing to do with intellectual property because you only have a viewer. Did you now that recording off the tv is illegal too if you keep it for ages... Im not against recording off tv or anything, its just that if your that determined to get the best quality signla (m peg 2) to record to Tv its obvious you aint using it to watch it later, i suspected he was going to sell it, Tux (606)
2004-08-05 10:06:00 You must be Subway (trademe.co.nz)?

Hmmm... I guess I can see where you are coming from but I personally don't have a problem with it.

2004-08-05 10:10:00 yeah thats me. I dont have a problem with it either really. Your not going to burn it to cd or dvd and sell it like he was Tux (606)
2004-08-05 10:13:00 Selling it would not be cool, but then I don't really understand where you are coming from about the time lapse thing... I mean there are heaps of standalone DVD recorders now... even standalone HD recorders like a Tivo?

2004-08-05 10:15:00 you record it to watch it later cause you couldnt watch it then Tux (606)
2004-08-05 10:16:00 But if I recorded it to keep it? Like people do with video tapes?

2004-08-05 10:18:00 but your not going to sell what you recorded off tv are you, no one would buy it, but if you were to record at high quality sky transmission with mpeg 2 and burn to dvd, how would you know the difference. I was simply stating the law not sayingi was pro it Tux (606)
