| 258599 | 2004-08-05 09:43:00 | When starting up the computer the "Dial Up Connection" dialogue box always comes up. You cancel this and it disappears for a few seconds and then reappears. You cancel it again and it reappears. This can happen up to 6 or 7 times and sometimes it actually locks the computer up meaning that you need to restart it. How can I prevent this from happening all the time? |

| 258600 | 2004-08-05 09:54:00 | Some programs (especially those that sit in your system tray, next to your clock) like to check the internet for updates automatically. You might have a program (antivirus, multimedia, p2p etc.) that is automatically searching for an internet connection, and somewhere in your system settings you've got a setting saying that if a program looks for the internet, and you're not connected, then your system should connect, which will be why the dial-up connection box keeps popping up. You need to find what program is trying to check for updates/connection, and disable the auto-check. Another option is in your internet settings (in Internet Explorer, Tools > Internet Options > Connections) select "Never dial a connection". Mike. |
